My vision was blurred, I thought I was in a nightmare, as a hairy-faced man yelled in my face screaming, “Nolan, do you know what happened? You were shot in the head.” I slipped back into the drug-induced coma, and I saw myself as fully recovered in the future and saw the steps I took to get there. In the state of the induced coma, everything was peaceful. There was nobody there to derail me from my plans, there was nobody to tell me I was not ready to take the next step, and there were no criticisms from outside forces. It was just me, structuring my next move towards making a full recovery by overcoming my injury. Today a friend of mine, Masiba Martha, said to me, “That mindset in you is your great success of change.” Since coming out of the coma, even when I was paralyzed, I had intent with zero reservations that I was going to make a full recovery, and I was merely following my process to get there. I had found a communication with my source of consciousness while in the coma that made me believe in the process of my full recovery because I saw already as real. In these intimate moments with my consciousness, I discovered who I really was. In this moment of finding my source of potential, I discovered my guidance process to overcome external possibilities. The following information is not of supernatural theory; these laws of success are also processes trusted by Curtis Jackson, Deepak Chopra, and Rhonda Byrne.
I came out of the coma, and not knowing that I was robbed at gun point and shot in the head, I had a realization that as long as you maintain a positive mindset and stick to your journey, you will succeed. If you imagine or play out how you want your future to be, it will become a reality if you take the steps towards making it happen. Look inward and discover your true potential by envisioning what you want to succeed in life – your most passionate ambitions and dreams. With Every Motivation That You Have In Life, Embody them to become them.
Visualize The Future That You Want For Yourself
Rhonda Byrne said, “See the things that you want as already yours.” My recovery is mine; it is merely a matter of working for it. The effort I put into my recovery will reflect the results I get out. As I continue to recover, and the more mobility I get, I want to work harder and try new exercises as an effort to build my body back. With that being said, never losing focus of my goal and my plan of action is crucial. LL Cool J said, “Stay focused, go after your dreams and keep moving toward your goals.” Staying focused and keeping your eye on the target is important; however, trusting your process to obtain your goal is equally important. Anybody can give you knowledge or wisdom; however, nobody can give you self actualized belief in yourself. When I left my first hospital, the doctors wanted to send me off with the high-powered wheelchair. Additionally, when I left my third hospital, they wanted to send me home with a hydraulic lift that gets me in and out of bed and into a wheelchair. I had something that medical equipment and doctors cannot measure and diagnose, my full potential as I saw from my consciousness, determination to reach my full potential, and my perspective that I was blessed with an opportunity to grow and I am taking this opportunity for all that it is worth.
When you embrace feelings, thoughts, and beliefs that resonate with your future wants/goals, your daily habits and focuses change to benefit these goals, respectively. Furthermore, you should remember that whatever your goals are, the outcome depends entirely on the effort you are willing to put in. 50%, 80%, or 100% effort? Which do you think will yield the most positive results? The more effort you put in, the more satisfied you will be with the outcome and the more results that you achieve, the more motivation you will have to push harder towards making progress. In other words, You will notice that the more effort you pour in, this amount will naturally increase over time. Additionally, your mindset will change from dreading the effort to actually wanting to work harder and become better at it. Yes, despite this, people will still lose focus and perhaps give up altogether – but that’s why it is crucial to stick to your plan and minimize the possibility of this happening as much as you can. For example, eliminating distractions and other potential aspects in life that could make you go off track. On the same note, you have to be motivated to not only see your plan through but, you must put in the elbow grease to manifest thoughts into reality.
You must stay focused, keep your eye on the target, AND trust the process, or you’ll lose momentum along the way.
Trust The Process
Deepak Chopra said, “As you gain more and more access to your true nature, you will also spontaneously receive creative thoughts.” You have to trust your process because once you follow your vision, you will come up with ideas to make it work. Once we embark on this new journey, people will come and help us along the way. For example, my left hand did not work, and I could not do daily living tasks, such as making or eating sandwiches. I had no dexterity, coordination, and my hand was locked shut. One day I went to buy a few shirts with my mother, and the girl behind the register asked if we could hang out. I trusted my thought processing, and when we did hang out, she brought items to correct my hand. In the process of the hero’s journey, some help is given to the hero, us, which is necessary to make them wiser and stronger and hopefully better able to face the challenges of the adventure. It may be discovered by the hero, but is often furnished by a mentor of some kind. In my case, it was the girl behind the counter, and I had to trust my process when reaching out to her. I always envisioned myself getting better, and I never lost that focus. As a matter of fact, when we met for the first time, I had it in my mind’s eye that this mentor was going to assist me in fulfilling my vision.
The major struggle is actually starting, but once you start, a lot more becomes possible. New ideas, relationships, and opportunities will arise if you continue to trust the process and implement action. You don’t have to do everything on your own, either. It’s okay to ask for help. Getting help from people you trust and those who support you is good – it encourages you to work harder and achieve more while you have support along the way. With this in mind, a life coach is a good consideration for anyone’s life journey, to make sure you never lose focus or stray from your path. Whatever your motivation is in life, it is essential to believe in yourself before you take your first step.
The Power of Visualization
Curtis Jackson said, “I visualized in great detail of the places I would live, the car I would drive, and the outside world I would someday explore. It was a life of freedom and possibility.” While in the drug-induced coma, I too had imagined in great detail my process to recovery, how my injury would positively impact other people’s lives, my life, and how this situation of almost being murdered would bring me unlimited possibilities. I saw an opportunity to share with other TBI survivors, and all people in general, that if you work hard enough for something and if you bend your mind, barriers become obstacles, and obstacles become opportunities for growth. These opportunities for growth are impactful and contagious, meaning that your tribulations and triumphs harness the power to uplift and motivate others. Kobe Bryant said, “Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.” Bryant is a perfect example as he performs on a global stage and uses his negative circumstances to win multiple NBA championships. Bryant has been looked up to by millions and millions of people, and from early on, he had been criticized for his confidence and trust he instilled in himself. Bryant’s trust in himself, his vision for himself, and his process are partially responsible for his success, which included a four-time all-star MVP. People do not have phenomenal success by doubting and thinking low about themselves. Innovation and breakthroughs come from inside, following your own vision and listening to your inner voice.
When you visualize your deepest desires, you have a better chance of following through with the journey that ultimately leads to these desires. See every challenge or step as an opportunity to grow yourself and fulfill your dreams. The key takeaway here is also that your growth will inspire and motivate others to do the same for themselves. If you think of all of the successful people in the world, they are excellent examples of what success looks like – not giving up, putting in the hard work and effort, and always keeping a positive perspective, regardless of the situation. It’s almost a guarantee that you will doubt yourself, feel stressed, or think negatively along the way, but it’s how you respond to these inner thoughts that determines your success.
Find Motivation Within Yourself, Not What People Tell You
I had to believe in myself and my process I envisioned to make a full recovery. Nobody can do the work for me, and nobody can instill belief and my vision for me. The preparation, confidence, motivation, and execution come from within. Trusting my process and vision comes from a place of creativity, from a place inside me that only I know. Doctors don’t know my will, motivation, determination, and creative power. All they know about me is my case number. I could have the best surgeons, therapists, and team of doctors behind me; however, I needed to believe in myself one hundred percent that I can accomplish without a doubt the opportunity I was given to make an amazing recovery. Doctors told me – and I am not the only one – that I will never walk again. Then I was told I would be in leg braces for ”the rest of my waking days.” Nobody should listen to that. Find motivation to pursue what you think is possible, not what someone else says what you are capable of. Even when I was paralyzed, I had intent with zero reservations that I was going to make a full recovery, and I was merely following my process to get there. Set your sight high, trust your thought process, trust your inner voice, and enjoy your journey to the finish line and beyond.
The lesson here is that you can’t rely on anyone else to give you your goals and dreams. You have to find motivation to do the work yourself – make the decisive moves to get you where you want to be. You can be handed all of the assets in the world that you need for something to work, but the truth is, none of it would matter if you don’t believe in yourself or if you continually doubt yourself and what you are capable of. Don’t let anyone tell you how to walk, talk, think, or act – you have to be independent and there for yourself, or you won’t advance in life towards your goals. Let your actions be the motivation that other people need in their lives.
Trust the process and envision what you want so you can fight hard to make it a reality.
